Bel Air Crest Real Estate & Homes for Sale | Bel Air Crest History

Bel Air Crest, one of the most iconic neighborhoods in Los Angeles, has a rich history that dates back centuries. Located on the western side of the city, it’s known for its upscale homes and stunning views of nearby mountains and valleys. But what makes this neighborhood so special? Let’s take a look at its unique story.

Originally inhabited by Native American tribes such as Tongva, Chumash, and Gabrielino-Tongva peoples for thousands of years before European settlers arrived in California during the 18th century, Bel Air Crest was established later on when land developer Alphonzo E Bell purchased around 500 acres from Ann Bixby Smith (the daughter of former mayor Jonathan Bixby). He then created what is now known as “Beverly Hills Addition No 2” – which would become home to many affluent families over time. In 1923, he built his own mansion which still stands today as part of The Beverly House Estate – once owned by William Randolph Hearst who bought it in 1947!

During World War II, Bel Air was subject to wartime restrictions due to fears that Japanese planes could target Hollywood or other parts surrounding the LAX airport. As a result, all lighting had been turned off or blocked out with blackout curtains and several hills were leveled off into airfields while people were evacuated from their homes near these areas. After WWII ended however life resumed back to normalcy but not until after some major changes had taken place.

In 1963 businessman Robert O Anderson purchased property near what is now called ‘Bel-Air Country Club Golf Course which became home to many celebrities like Dean Martin & Frank Sinatra who enjoyed playing golf there on regular basis! Real estate development soon increased dramatically resulting in luxury mansions being built throughout the entire area thus turning it into an exclusive enclave populated mainly by wealthy individuals including movie stars such as Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz along with businessmen like Merv Griffin & David Geffen who all chose to call this beautiful neighborhood their permanent residence!

Today Bel Air Crest remains one of the premier neighborhoods within the greater Los Angeles area - offering breathtaking scenery great schools excellent shopping opportunities plus a variety of recreational activities perfect for the whole family to enjoy! Thanks, Alphonzo Bell we are able to experience part paradise right here in our own backyard!
